Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women in the world.
There is a 10% chance of a woman having breast cancer sometime during her life.
The most important screening test for breast cancer is the mammogram.A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast. It can detect breast cancer up to two years before the tumor can be felt by you or your doctor. Women age 40 or older who are at average risk of breast cancer should have a mammogram once every 2 years.
Women at high risk should have yearly mammograms at age 30. Roche in collaboration with PMA has started the Mobile Mammography Caravan where they have to date screened more than 2000 women for free. Screening mammograms from reputable Health Institutions will cost up to PKR 4500 to 6000.
The Bus is equipped with the latest state of the art Mammography Unit, CR System (that digitalizes the results) and a Laser printer. There are 2 trained female technicians on the bus for assisting the women to be screened. Once the films are taken, images are taken on a CD and dispatched to Advance Radiology Clinic for reporting.
